As a sophomore in high school I was introduced to the Adams County Tech Prep Consortium’s Allied Health program, which is a competitive, application driven process with five of our county's high schools participating. I was accepted into the two-year program and began the program my junior year. Now as a senior, I have completed about one and half years of the program and am so happy that I have done so. Not only has it reinforced going into the health care professions, I have also earned college credit through the Harrisburg Area Community College (HACC) through the College in the High School Program. I have earned credits in Medical Terminology and will also earn credits in the Introduction to Allied Health course. In addition to learning foundational health care skills such as vital signs, bed making, and transporting a wheel chair patient, I will receive extensive clinical exposure through the nearly twenty job shadowing experiences. This two-year course has made me so much more confident in my decision to study nursing.

Anyone interested in going into the medical field with the opportunity to be apart of this program, should apply. This has been one of the best decisions I have ever made, and would definitely regret not applying knowing how amazing it is. The teacher for the Allied Health program is a wonderful person. She touches your life and is one you will not forget. Before she started teaching, she was a nurse for over 40 years. Her personal stories about nursing are awesome to listen too. Those stories, as well as her, have made me want to become the best nurse that I can possibly be.
